Air China's carbon reduction efforts
To achieve green, low-carbon, circular, and sustainable development, Air China has established a sound energy conservation and environmental protection management system, set up a green, low-carbon circular mode of operation, continuously optimized its fleet structure, and carried out various fuel-saving measures to minimize the environmental impact of its own carbon emissions.
Green efforts and achievements:
2010,China's first green domestic flight
2011,China's first domestic biofuel flight
2013,Received the China "Corporate Environmental Responsibility - Top Ten Award"
2014,Selected as the first batch of pilot units for new energy vehicles in civil aviation
2016,First airline in China to introduce the highly fuel-efficient Boeing 787-9 aircraft
2018,First airline in Mainland China to introduce the highly fuel-efficient Airbus A350-900 aircraft
2019,Won the Excellence Prize for Enterprise Environmental Protection at the "10th China Environment Awards"
2020,Distinguished as the first batch of exemplary companies in the Blue Sky Protection Campaign
2021,First domestic company to use local experimental carbon quotas to launch carbon offset flights on a large scale. First airline in Mainland China to obtain the environmental management system certification (ISO聽14001)
2022, Air China became the first airline in China to use domestically produced sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) for wide-body aircraft ferry flying. It also started to regularly use SAF for aircraft ferry flying in Tianjin
2023, Air China operated the “Chasing a Carbon-Free Future for Clearer Skies” themed flight, completing a commercial flight from Hangzhou to Beijing using domestically produced SAF
2024, Air China participated in China’s first SAF application pilot project, regularly using domestically produced SAF on four commercial flights
The regulation of products
1.Project content: Neutralizing carbon emissions with Air China's Pure Flying program. You can take part in afforestation and other carbon reduction projects using flight mileage or cash payments to offset flight carbon emissions and embark on a new "carbon-neutral" flight experience.
2. As carbon offset is irreversible, you can cancel Pure Flying Carbon Offset product purchases within 7 days of purchase; they are non-refundable beyond 7 days.
3. Your payment order will only be recorded under the account you logged in to at the time of payment and cannot be transferred to another account.
4. If passengers who pay with mileage voluntarily cancel the product, the mileage will be returned according to the original validity period, and expired mileage will be automatically invalidated.
5. Once you have paid successfully, you can receive an electronic invoice through the Air China app or by calling 95583.
FAQ
1.How does carbon offsetting work?
You can offset carbon emissions from flights by purchasing China Certified Emission Reductions and help with green carbon reduction projects such as afforestation.
2.How are passenger carbon emissions calculated?
The carbon emissions of each flight are affected by a number of factors, such as aircraft type, the weight of passengers, cargo and crew, flight distance and altitude. Air China will update the historical fuel consumption data for each flight segment to calculate the carbon emissions level for each route. Based on the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Carbon Emissions Calculator methodology and Air China fleet flight data, the amount of carbon emissions per passenger is calculated as follows: (fuel consumption x passenger-to-freight factor)/(number of passengers x carbon emission factor). Carbon emissions from freight on flights are fully deducted.
3.Are there any differences in passenger emissions by fare class?
Yes. As more services are provided to Business and First Class passengers, the weight of supporting equipment far surpasses that used in Economy Class. In comparison with the emissions of Economy Class passengers, Business Class passengers emissions and First Class passengers emissions are higher.
4.How can I calculate my carbon emissions when flying multiple segments?
To calculate carbon emissions for multiple segments, you need to enter each segment in turn into the carbon emissions calculator.
5.Is data on passenger carbon emissions consistent across all airlines operating on the same flight segments with the same aircraft type?
No. There are differences in the operational efficiency levels of each airline. Passenger carbon emissions data is calculated based on the historical data of each airline.
6.Is it necessary to become an Air China frequent flyer in order to carry out carbon offsetting?
Yes. As a frequent flyer, we can better match your flight records. You can also use miles for carbon offsetting, highlight your green flight footprint and receive a carbon offset certificate.
7.What are the different ways of carrying out carbon offsetting?
Select flight segments and number of passengers and use your miles or pay the offset charge. The single offset limit per person is 5000 yuan or 150,000 miles.
8.Can carbon offset charges or miles be refunded?
Please refer to the product rules for details. levant national platforms.
10.How is the per tonne price of carbon set?
Air China participates in high-quality carbon emission reduction projects in a number of different ways. The metric for the price per tonne of carbon will vary depending on the type of project and the time of approval.
